Jil Sander has been under the direction of creative director Raf Simons since July of 2005, but today that all changes when he steps down from the company. The Jil Sander Women’s Fall/Winter 2012 was his final collection. Jil Sander is to return to her namesake brand in Simons’ place and is confident that her return will propel the brand further and in a positive direction. Sander told WWD, “At the moment there seems to be a craving for authenticity and clear visions. I am confident that this is the time for modern sophistication, for attractive, wearable fashion which is true to the new century.” Some were excited about the return of Sander to her label while others mourn the loss of Simons. American Vogue Editor in Chief, Anna Wintour, commented on Simons’ talent. “I appreciate Jil’s talent, but we all have to recognize the enormous contribution Raf has made to the house and we look forward to seeing what he does next.” It is clear that Simons made quite the impact with Jil Sander; it will be interesting to see where his career path brings him next and what the future holds for the new leadership at Jil Sander.
